pictures from love's frontier by Megan Pinch
    Artist’s Statement

My images are psychological narratives about relationships.  These narratives are quiet and simple stories, oftentimes lonely and melancholy. Elements from my life are transformed and juxtaposed to make personal statements responding to the world.  My photographs harness the contrast of the whimsical and the grim in the fairy tale we call "love."

Vintage wedding dresses fascinate me; and through the lens I hear the stories of the women who wore them.  The models I use are real and imperfect people, given only gestural direction, common objects, and light.  I often use the disquiet of abandoned spaces to elicit the mood in my images.  Recently, I’ve also been drawn to the dry and barren landscapes surrounding me in west Texas.
