Julie Puttgen with Paul Galloway

Paul-

Julie Puttgen here- I saw you speak at the GA7 last week.
I like your paintings, a whole lot. There's a cool unstickiness about them I respond to- a sense that you are engaging the craft & pleasure of painting without getting hung up in it & also without turning around and killing that experience with irony.
It would be great to talk with you to get some clearer idea where you are coming from.

Julie

  Julie,

Thanks for going to the artist talk last week. I am very interested in the craft and pleasure of painting (very perceptive of you), otherwise I'd just print large photographs and collage them together... it would certainly be faster. Something happens when the images are painted, they assume the baggage of art history and become more autonomous physically than a photo. Plus, I am a painter at heart. As far as where I'm coming from, I'm not sure what you mean...do you want to know where I grew up or something? And what is "Ratsalad Deluxe"? It sounds disgustingly intriguing.
